I'm glad he's above mudslingin' politics.....did he just call Palin a pig?

Big week for Obama as far as political gaffes go.

What a horrible jerk! How on earth dare he use such a common and overused analogy. It's so well known for one thing, because McCain used it last year in reference to Hillary.

"I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig," John McCain.

The nerve! He must be sexist!

Just for reference, it's quite obvious that neither was actually calling their opponent a pig. It's just McCain who has the audacity to claim that certain phrases are only appropriate when he uses them.

Like this one which he said about your favorite Mitt.

"Never get into a wrestling match with a pig. You both get dirty -- and the pig likes it."

Yes, then he was calling Romney a pig.

Again, I'm glad that Obama is above petty politics.

So it was just an analogy......that's fine, I can accept that. Was the analogy intended for McCain or for Palin?.....either way, it's dirty politics. Obama is the biggest hypocrit in my estimation. Everyone knows that McCain speaks his mind, but Obama has this facade of being the anti-politician.

For the last time......I am not a McCain enthusiast. The campaign against Romney is still heavy on my mind and I don't think McCain is Republican enough.

    I am anti-Obama.

It's pretty sad that I can't be for anybody at the moment. I am happy that Palin "is just a heartbeat away" from the presidency--the more I find out about her, the more I like her.

Me too. I like burning books.

Dude....what tabloids are you reading? Book burning?

I did look up McCain's "Pig statement"......it was used as an analogy to Hillary's Healthcare Plan......he wasn't calling Hillary a pig. Obama used his analogy on a person not on policy....it showed a lot of class.

McCain's diss on Romney wasn't unprovoked..it was classless, but not nearly as offensive.

If you twist his words enough, you can make it sound like anything you want.

I love the Obama campaign response. They pointed out what was already obvious to anyone who watches the full video. He was talking about McCain's campaign and their desperate attempts to paint themselves as 'change'. I find it hilarious that they have faux-rage about imagined sexism (deflecting any real issues by using Palin's gender as a sheild) but did anyone complain when he called the McCain camp an old, stinking, rotten fish?

Nope. And I have to admit that I agree. Their campaign has a fetid stink.

I'm sorry if you were offended by his comments. But, if that's all you're looking for, that's all that you will find. It's too bad this election has come to this. I wish it could have stayed above the fray. But, once it starts, it cannot be stopped. Voters eat up the lies that McCain spewed for months, Democrats cried that Obama wasn't responding. Now, if he dares to question Palin, or even make a common analogy, the McCain camp has a news conference to call him sexist.

It's stupid. But that's what you get when you have the same people who ran Georgie's campaign running smear patrol for McCain.

You would have thought that McCain would have learned something from losing to Bush in 2000. He talked about how debasing and disgusting these people were who spread such terrible, hurtful lies about him (mancurian candidate, illegitimate child, etc). He said there was a special place in hell for people like that.

Then he hired them to run his campaign.

TA-DAA! Instead of an election about issues Barack now has to delve into the crap that the McCain/Bush campaign pull out of their dirty minds. Now's it's a campaign about lipstick and lies about sex education instead of things that will effect real people.

Like Barack said, "Because if you don't have any fresh ideas, then you use stale tactics to scare the voters. If you don't have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from."

    November can't come soon enough.

    Burning books:

Just to clarify, I am prone to exaggeration and mocking tones. She might not have burned books but, she did make three inquiries (as she admitted herself) to the city librarian on the possibility of banning books from their library.

Palin's response to the uproar was that her questioning was rhetorical (to make a point?), a discussion "about understanding and following administration agenda's"

BOOK BURNER! PUPPY KILLER! (OK, wolves. But still, helicopter hunting? Where's the sport in that) PUPPY KILLER!

    And, really. Mooseburgers? Yuck.

But I digress. It does appear that McCain knew he couldn't win the election on his record or his agenda. So he tried to find the closest thing to a Republican Obama for his running mate. Someone dynamic, with a compelling story, not of the establishment, and not an old white male.

She might be completely nuts, but the base is energised!

Now, instead of answering every critique with 'it's ok, he was a POW" the McCain campaign can say, "Don't ask questions. That's sexist."

Which, by the way is very similar to "don't ask questions. That's not patriotic." But they'll wait until after the election to switch into that gear.
