VP Fight night

Thrilla from Wasilla takes on Jabber Jaw Joe.

How's it going to go down?

The bar is set so low for Palin that showing up conscious is going to pull things in her favor. While there is an incredible potential for her to make Quayle look like JFK I personally anticipate she will do fine. She won't make a lick of sense but it won't matter. Biden will bore us all to tears. Palin will win.

But, I sure hope I'm wrong. I would love for more Palinisms. When it comes to substance, she makes GW look eloquent.

Palin is bad..........just horrible. I'm sick of hearing about taxes.....is that the only thing she talks about?

I wonder if I know more about the Republican party than Palin.....I'm not kiddin'. Well, at least concerning the talking points.

I jumped out of my chair (loveseat actually) when she couldn't defend deregulation of the market.

Sure, Dems are for regulation.......the kind that forces banks/lenders to loan money they won't be getting back.

    I'm confused, upset, and saddened.

McCain doesn't stand a chance. His campaign even left Michigan. It's over.

Ug. It's no Couric interview but she's doing worse than I expected.

Biden is no CareBear, but at least he's coming across as more human than cyborg. That's a plus. He's probably spent the last five weeks practicing how to smile.

James, you don't get to be discouraged, you don't have my permission. You're supposed to yell at me for being ignorant and wrong. Come on man, get it together! What's going to happen if we start to agree with one another? Cats and dogs, that what!

    Best line so far.

"How long have I been at this? Five Weeks?

She should probably avoid repeating that one.

She delivered some zingers and looked cute doing it though (at times I laughed out loud)......do Americans prefer that over substance? We shall see.

Biden was MUCH better than I expected. Not saying he was monumental or anything but the fact that I am still awake means he beat my expectations.

Palin wasn't as bad as I had hoped. She avoided answering questions like she avoids Krispy Kremes. She stuck to her points and did it in her own bewildering way. In the end she was just a marshmallow: not much there but fluff and sugar.
    Glum said...
Staff you need to pull it together man! Hang in there buddy.

I was glad to see Biden didn't get crazy up there. I was more afraid for him to be weird than Palin not to make sense.

I was pleasantly surprised in Palins ability to at least answer the question. She really did have some missed opportunities to really go after Obama for a couple of things, especially over the deregulation of the banking industry a few years ago.

Biden actually also could have really gone after her a little bit more. He really played it safe.

There will be a lot of discussion of how this will play out in the polls, to be honest I'm not sure it will do a whole lot.
    Abby and Anna said...
I really thought Palin struggled more in the beginnning and then gained some steam. It seemed like she relaxed throughout the process. I was also happy that it remained fairly civil. I was worried Biden would destroy her and get vicious and he showed some serious restraint...even though you could see him bristle repeatedly. I was impressed.

I was also discouraged about the deregulation thing. I thought it was clear she didn't know how to answer the question...however it was Biden's question, not Gwen's. It was not his place to be asking questions of her during the debate...new questions. I do wish, however, that she would have responded to it, or made it clear that it was HIS question, not the moderator's. It sounded like she wasn't prepared for it. It was obvious she has way less experience than him.

However I thought she had some poignant comebacks and observations. I found it impressive how many times she quoted Biden and his support of John McCain and dislike for Obama's platforms...until he was nominated.

I think CNN sucks...they are sooo biased. Did anyone else flip between stations to see the difference in the way Fox and CNN covered the debate??? Boy...it is obvious that one is biased one way and one the other. From statistics to votes by the audience...etc. However, CNN SHOULD have covered all of the "falsities" of Biden's claims. Check them out...not that impressive. He argues like another one of my friends...not one of you by the way...fake it until you make it...make them believe you are an authority and then fudge the details and CNN will cover for you. Where were the "real" fact checks that they kept running at the bottom of the page.

I did think he was a pretty amazing debater, however. He obviously has way more experience than Obama...I just wish he could say he disagrees with some of his policies...I would feel so much better.

I think the "Maverick" use was a bit excessive. We get it already.
    Josh said...
Yup. It was stupendously forgettable. Hooray for mediocrity!

I agree with Sueann. This whole Maverick thing felt forced in 2000. Now it's a joke. It's like the guy who wanders around a party telling everyone how good-looking he is. It's so overused I doubt they believe it anymore.

As for Palin answering questions. I don't know if she answered a single one all night. She read her notes well, and repeated her prepared one-liners but she cannot give a straight answer. Well, she can. But we all know how well that goes. She didn't debate. She recited.

It is not over the line for Biden to direct a question toward her. I'm still aghast at how people can consider questions like: "What are your qualifications" and "What do you read" to be gotcha journalism. Maybe we should ask her about her favorite recipes or where she shops. Would that be more fair?

Let her answer the dang questions! I love it when she comes up with her own ideas. It's pure hilarity.
    Abby and Anna said...
You guys should check the facts on the debate...it is kind of funny...they were both fibbing their heads off. I knew that Biden had bluffed quite a bit...I didn't know she had as well. I am being very honest here because we all know I favor Palin, but it really is kind of funny. They both bluffed throughout the debate.

My point about not answering the question is not that it is illegal for him to ask her a question in the debate, but that she does not have to answer it...he was off-task and expecting her to jump on board. She didn't...I kind of wish she would have, but she didn't.

I still thought she was impressive. Biden was NOT fan of Obama before this nomination. He didn't hate him, but he did not agree with him politically.

Hey...have you guys checked out Obama's association with ACORN??? Look that one up...its interesting to say the least. Acorn is widely known for its contribution to campaigns through voter frauds. Obama has given a bunch of money to Acorn and has an extensive history with them. They also pressured banks to issue subprime mortgages back when the problems began.

I have also found out...back to William Ayers...that Obama was elected by Ayers as chairman of a radical education program founded by William Ayers. I know, Josh, you are going to roll your eyes..."Yeah...that whole terrorist thing again...we're all going to die if Obama is elected president" I realize those were not your exact words, but your sentiment. Just think, honestly, if this were Bush...how would you feel about these associations???

I don't think Obama is a terrorist, like I said before, but I do think we need to be aware that he has some pretty extreme radically left beliefs and associations.

Gosh...I write a lot when I write, don't I. You can tell I am the girl. I just can't sum it up quickly.
    Josh said...
Don't worry, we're all long-winded every four years.

"Acorn is widely known for its contribution to campaigns through voter frauds."

Huh? That's like saying Mormons are widely know for the Mountain Meadows Massacre. I'm not a huge fan of Acorn's tactics but the reality is that they have fought against predatory lending for over 8 years.

There are two reasons you only hear about Obama's links to Acorn on conservative talk shows and conspiracy theory web site. It's because they are not interested in either facts or reality. They just want to scare you. Facts: the only tenable tie Obama has to Acorn is when he represented them as an attorney. In that instance Obama represented Acorn along with that other horrible economy destroying organization, the U.S. Department of Justice. If you are getting these 'truths' from the dark side of the radio dial I suggest you stay up late and catch Coast to Coast. It's a program that dabbles in 'truths' just like Rush and Hannity but it's a lot more fun to listen to.

"Just think, honestly, if this were Bush...how would you feel about these associations???"

Who wants to play the Kevin Bacon game? How about Bush's association with well-known terrorists? Like Bin Laden?

Bush's ties to the Bin Laden family are pretty clear and I'm pretty sure that clan is responsible for a bit more terrorism than Ayers. The Bush administration allowed Saudi royals to break the no-flight rule after 9/11 so they could flee the country even though one of them was an Al-Qaida go-between. The relationship between the Saud royalty and the Bush family goes back over 30 years and is drenched in dollars. The home of Qutb-inspired terrorism
is also the one the Bush administration protects and militarizes because they give us sweet deals on oil. How many times did you vote for him?

Obama should be more forthcoming about his relationship with Ayers but I understand why he has been quiet about it. But, in the end, there's no meat to the attack. It will have no impact on his presidency and I doubt he will fight a useless war because he worked on a community board with the idiot.

Have you ever known anyone who has done something stupid, perhaps really, really stupid? Like, go to jail stupid? If so, does that mean bad things about you? I think not.
    James said...
uhh......Ayers is/was an actual terrorist....Bin Laden's family, for the most part, have the misfortune of sharing his last name.
    Josh said...
Really? They just have terrorist names?

The conservative nutjob group Judicial Watch had an article about how Osama himself may have chartered the flights. The family sponsored his efforts in Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation and there is considerable evidence that the family is still funneling money to Al-Qaida.

The tenuous nature of the relationship to these people is part of my point. Do I believe GW is buddy's with terrorists? Of course not. (I put it up there with Bigfoot dating my neighbor. But Michael Moore spun it well and it seems to have stuck. It looks like the McCain campaign is taking a page from Michael Moore's book.)

Why are you so eager to believe Obama is BFF with terrorists? Is it because the McCain campaign doesn't have a wrinkly leg to stand on? If you are still a McCain supporter at this point then I would really consider looking into Bob Barr. He actually has some ideas rather than just blatant smears.
    Abby and Anna said...
Oh no...Josh, are you one of those Americans with a "9-11 = inside job" sticker??? I know, I know, you said you don't believe that junk, but you sure have some evidence to support "not" believing it. I want sources for your information on that. I have read NUMEROUS books about the Saudi royals...and James is right...they share a name. Many of them were terrified of him. My brother in law has been trying to send me articles swaying me to believe that Bush is as bad as Hitler and I have to say..."it ain't so Joe!" I have read the articles and not ONE states that Bush is responsible for these attacks. I can't believe people actually believe that junk. I understand the point you are trying to make...Obama is a terrorist because he is friends with a terrorist...Bush is a terrorist because he is friends with a terrorist...not the case. I don't remember any of Bush's campaigns being launched from the Bin Ladin home...I guess I missed it. There is considerable evidence...to use your words, to suggest that Obama was "friends" with quite a few people who are "anti-American" in every sense of the word. That is why I think it is important. Talk about cheap shots and "blatant smears", how many times have you alone mocked McCain due to something so irrelevant as his age??? I think ties to dangerous people who hate America are a little important than a geriatric president.

And...I only stated the facts about Acorn...he has donated large sums of money...that is the truth. He also did defend them and there is a history there. And...they HAVE BEEN involved in voter fraud. I never said..."voter fraud for Obama".

And...William Ayers has NEVER apologized AND on 9-11 said, "I wish we had done more" (bombing, that is) Not very repentant...and NOT far in the past. Why do you insist on denying that that is disturbing.

Have you checked out the "live infant mortality act"??? Obama voted for that one, too. The reason you hear this stuff on conservative talk shows is because you are hearing only the great stuff on shows like CNN about dems and the smears about republicans. You can deny it, but its true. How many times have you heard Biden's idiotic "Stand up Chuck...woops, well, you are making everyone else stand up...everyone stand up for Chuck." You don't hear those slip-ups like you would if it were a Republican...and it didn't make Saturday Night Live...I wonder why. I can admit that Fox is slanted the other way. I can tell you the honest truth, if there were a Che Guevara flag in one of McCain's campaign offices...you would hear about it!!! I SAW that one.

I don't think if it is slanted for your party that you are aware. I know I totally agree with Fox and that means it must be slanted in my direction...but I just feel like they represent the truth. I assume that is how most democrats feel about CNN, Time and the other way-left stations.

Okay...too long again. Oh, and you are so right...it is every four years when people get heated like this. The rest of the time, I can handle politics without writing a book for every explanation!!!
    James said...
If it's every four years, what the heck have we been doing for the last 2, Joshy?

Is that how long we've been arguin' on this site? How are we still friends? Amazing. Love ya dude.

    Haha.....we're a funny bunch.

Sueann, I love your posts. Hope to actually sit down sometime and back you up. It would require me sayin' something intelligent though........that usually means posting a cartoon or something from Youtube.

When in doubt, I just tell Josh he's voting for the Anti-Christ.....that always seems to hit the right buttons.
    Josh said...
Part three of Josh's short sarcastic responses:

"Josh is an idiot because he thinks GW personally destroyed the World Trade Towers."

You're missing the point. You are eager to find terrorist connections with Obama but cringe at the thought that someone might apply the same logic to Curious George. You hate the logic you used for Obama being applied to the current President. Why?

As for my opinions: I suggest you take note of the words I used above: nutjob, Kevin Bacon Game, bigfoot dating my neighbor and 'of course not.' I personally don't think GW has enough brain cells to power a light bulb, let alone be part of some vast conspiracy.

"I don't remember any of Bush's campaigns being launched from the Bin Ladin home"
Neither was Obama's launched from Ayer's. You've really got the wacko side of this story. There's an actual reporting done in the NY Times today about their storied 'friendship'. But it doesn't support the widely-held campaign line that Obama and Ayers were secret-terrorist-blood-brothers so I'm not sure if you'll like it.

But since hair-thin associations are fair game, how about McCain and G. Gordon Liddy, or Anne Hathaway's ex-con-fiance' dude, or economy-destroying Keating. Does the fact that Palin's husband belonged to a political party who's one major tenant is succession from the Union make her a threat to this country? Are those fair questions? If you are going to apply slanted logic to Obama then I don't think there is a politician in DC who won't have some obscure tie to some wacko at some point in their history. But whatever.

"he has donated large sums of money...that is the truth."

Wrong. The Obama campaign paid a subsidiary of Acorn for campaign services ($800,000 to be exact.) which might be a ginormous waste of money, but it's not illegal. He hasn't donated a single dollar.

"I never said..."voter fraud for Obama""
Me neither. Who would imply such a thing?

"Why do you insist on denying that that is disturbing."

Huh? I didn't deny anything! Why are you disturbed about something I didn't say? I did, in fact, call Ayers an idiot.

For clarification: I think we ought to have one rule around here. No getting offended because you disagree with someone. We might not see things the same way but we are all friends in the end. We can all disagree without taking it personally, or at least we should. I'm not disturbed that James thinks Barack Obama is actually Gozer the Destroyer in a two-button suit coat. James will always be a good friend, no matter how misguided his theories are. :)

"You don't hear those slip-ups like you would if it were a Republican"
Like when GW told reporter Peter Wallsten to take his sunglasses off? But he didn't want to because he was blind. Or when John McCain thought Spain was in South America. Or Palin made all of America 25 IQ points dumber when she couldn't name a single newspaper in her 5-minute long career on the national scene.

    "Che Guevara flag..."

Sure. Because Obama decorated every local campaign office in the entire country with his personal collection of Socialist memorabilia! Stalin Rocks!

What about Palin and the John Birch Society newsletter in her office? I'll bet she listens to Coast 2 Coast!

This whole issue of media bias will have to be dealt with later. I need to sleep. But I have come up with my own tagline that will now follow all of my posts in honor of the defenders of truth, Fox News. Here it is:

    Josh News
    Ferrin Balanced

    Yay truth!

Josh, I apologize if I sounded offended. That is why I hate email. I assure you that I was not offended in the least. I use caps and exclamation marks only to emphasize a point, not to "yell". I promise, I never yell in a debate with anyone. I have really enjoyed debating with you and have learned a lot from everything I read, which is why I keep getting on the blog to comment. I really like to talk to the opposing side because that is how you learn...talking to people who agree doesn't stretch you intellectually, it just makes you feel good. The last thing I want, is to be a "dumb Utah conservative" who has no idea what they are talking about, but supports everything that any Republican says and defends everything they say or do. I also do not want to be a weakling that just accepts the other side. Believe it or not, to learn opposing arguments, I actually visited Michael Moore's website and moveon.org, thinking I could learn more. I email back and forth with Dave, too, and I explained to him, I don't have school anymore, or work, I spend my time trying to decide if my kids are really sick or just constipated (not kidding) all the time. So please, humor me, and James, thanks so much for inviting me to join this blog, it has been fun. I hope you guys know that your wives are some of my very best friends and I can't wait for everyone to live close enough to visit.

Please take my political stuff lightly and don't think I am offended.

Once more...a woman response. You guys would have responded..."Not offended here, Dude." Maybe that is what I should have said!

    Talk to you soon!
    James said...
Sueann, you don't need to worry about sounding like a "dumb Utah conservative." Even if you were, it's still better than an informed Utah liberal.......that's just sinning against the light =)
    Abby and Anna said...
P.S. I am right about the campaign...it was the senate campaign and his first fundraiser was launched in William Ayers home. That is a fact.

Plus, I did get what you meant about Bush...I said that. I was just using your facts to extrapolate what others have concluded from your facts. I have heard that from intelligent people. I have seen that sticker in Utah... I have heard that point of view on TV...granted it was by the brilliant Rosie O'Donnel, but many people believe that...

I don't hate all of what Obama has to say...honestly I don't. I appreciate his sentiment toward the "uninsurable" people in our country. I just have a hard time giving that control to the feds. I don't know what the answer is...but I can tell you the truth...our family sure could have used some type of insurance policy that wasn't group...but wasn't private. Not my nuclear family, my extended family. I can tell you, however, that the need for that insurance created a burning desire to work hard to get a job that always offered group insurance. I don't know what the answer is there and don't think either party has it.

Education...neither party seems to be able to figure that one out. Bush's program...No Child Left Behind...are you kidding me? I could tell you from the beginning that that one was doomed. I taught in a school with kids from the base...how do you test teachers and children who move constantly when there is no consistent curriculum?

Just some of my ramblings to admit that I don't think that "my" party has all the answers. Talk to you soon.
    Josh said...
"P.S. I am right about the campaign...it was the senate campaign and his first fundraiser was launched in William Ayers home. That is a fact."

Aliens are abducting me at night and probing my ear canals with strange machinery. That is a fact.

You are wrong on several accounts.

    1. A group of people got together to have tea and crumpets or some other elitist food. It was nowhere near a 'fundraiser.' This is known among scheming terrorists as having a 'coffee'.

    2. While there, Alice Palmer introduced Barack to several of the windbags there as the person she wanted to succeed her.

    3. They did, in fact, all take blood oaths to destroy America and feasted on roast chihuahua and monkey brains.

What do you think really happened. Was there some training session where Ayers taught Obama the intricacies of bomb-making? Do you think it is all a conspiracy to get a man into office who will cause Armageddon? I really want to know what you think happened.

I even found a factcheck that FoxNews did on this. And since it's from FoxSnooze it must be true.

Their conclusion? No fundraiser and the entire connection between Ayers and Obama is tenuous. At best.

    Read it here:

did you not get the whole website...I tried to go there and could not get t here. I would love to read it if it is false...I would love to know. I have read SEVERAL accounts and not from right wing idiots. I tried to go there, but I don't think you wrote out the whole thing. Please resend it...if I am wrong, I stand corrected.
    Abby and Anna said...
I emailed another email that explained my concern, but it didn't come through. I have stated MANY times that I do NOT think Obama is a terrorist...learning how to make bombs from Bill Ayers would probably make him a terrorist. However...you are wrong...I went to the Fox News fact checker and this is what I found...

Ayers was clearly more than someone Obama just ran into in the neighborhood on occasion. In the mid-1990s, when Obama was making his first run for the Illinois Senate, Ayers had Obama to his home to introduce him to others. Fox News Fact Checker

Then, when wondering what the meeting was about I went to wikipedia...unbiased and found this...Ayers and Dohrn hosted a "meet-and-greet" fundraiser for Obama at their home in the Hyde Park section of Chicago, where the Ayers and the Obamas lived.[7] It was at this meeting that then State Senator Alice Palmer introduced Barack Obama as her chosen candidate for the 1996 Democratic primary.[8] Although the exact date of the meeting is not known, it was sometime in the second half of 1995, according to Ben Smith, a reporter for The Politico.[4 Wikipedia

Oh well...enough of that. The Acorn thing is deeper than a donation/payment...which by the way is semantics and I never said was illegal. Obama trained new members for Acorn. I am not saying that he is evil for doing so...Acorn is not all bad and I know it is based upon his experience that he was selected to train them. But...his experience with Acorn is not as tenuous as you stated. By the way...I know it is ACORN...

However, after the first session of conference, I wanted to focus on some things I think we may have in common...I am annoyed with Sarah Palin for using "nucular"...did she learn nothing from Bush's attacks on his speech by the media??? I wonder if she is mischievIous as well...or if her association to the AIP is supposaBly as bad as we all think. I knew about the AIP, which I learned about from my friend who is a democrat...he actually stated that she was a member and after I researched it...admitted it was only her husband. That is why I like debate with people who disagree...I bet you have done some research throughout all this blogging stuff too, huh? However, that has concerned me throughout this campaign...I will be honest.

Anyway, that is it from here for now. We may have to just agree to disagree about all this and leave it...no matter where you get it...you aren't talking to the real people and we aren't getting straight facts from anyone. By "you" I mean the plural "you" that we unfortunately do not have in our language. I do not mean "you" personally.
